What to do in case of a raid? What every migrant should know

Immigration raids can be a real scare. 😱 Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) doesn’t need an invitation to show up in your life. So be prepared and take note, because being informed is key to protecting yourself.

Make a plan, not a horror movie! 🎬

If you have a feeling that you might be one of those cases, here’s a key tip: prepare an emergency plan with your family. That means having a plan B in case the unexpected happens. You can include things like who will take care of the kids – we don’t want anyone left alone! 💔 or who to call if you need help. Everything is better with a plan!

Tips for keeping a low profile

To minimize the risk of being arrested by ICE, we recommend:

  • Do not display flags of other countries in your homes or vehicles.
  • Keep your vehicles in good condition, with properly functioning lights and no visible damage.
  • Do not pay your bail without consulting an attorney. Paying bail can trigger immigration (ICE) action and put you at risk of being detained. An attorney can help you resolve this situation and protect your rights.

Know your rights! 📜 Defense strategies against ICE

It’s easy to panic, but remember: do not run or resist arrest. Stay calm and act firmly. If asked for documents, do not hand over anything unnecessary. Less is more! And remember, notaries are not lawyers. While notaries can provide document preparation services, they do not have the training or experience to offer legal advice. We recommend scheduling an appointment with Community Law Group, where we can help you navigate these turbulent waters. 🌊

Can ICE agents enter my home to arrest me? 🚪

If ICE agents do not have a warrant signed by a judge, they should not enter the home without a resident’s permission. Opening the door when they knock means granting them the right to enter. Here are some steps to follow if ICE is at your home:

  • Tell them immediately if there are children or elderly individuals present.
  • If ICE arrests you, inform them if you have a medical condition or need to arrange childcare.
  • You do not have to hand over your consular documents or passport unless they have a warrant signed by a judge.
  • You do not have to sign any documents.

🗣️ It’s time to take action, people!
