Have you ever wondered what happens if you decide to use the CBP app
Home to self-deport? 🤔 Surely you’ve Heard that some immigrants are opting for this option to avoid deportation, but… is there really any hope of returning to the U.S. after
leaving through this route? Keep reading, because here we tell you everything you should know about this controversial app!
A few weeks ago, the U.S. government launched the CBP Home app, with the intention of allowing migrants who are illegally in the country to self-deport in a simpler way. 😮✈️ Through this platform, the government offers a “voluntary departure”, where migrants register their data and commit to return to their country of origin.
(Take note, it’s good for you: Attention immigrants! New immigration rules in the U.S. that could change EVERYTHING starting April 11th)
Well, here comes the important part… not everything is as simple as it seems! Some migration lawyers, say that CBP Home is like a trap. 😬🚫 It’s like they tell you: “If you leave using this application, maybe you can come back someday and live your American dream”, but the reality is that is not guaranteed.
In some cases, migrants who self-deport may have a chance of returning to the U.S. in the future, especially if they entered the country under certain conditions, such as asylum. But, in other cases, there is not much hope. 😔👨⚖️
On the other hand, there is also a more pessimistic view of the benefits of CBP Home, as obtaining a visa after being self-deported can be nearly impossible, especially if you have a history of unlawful stay in the U.S.
If you decide to use CBP Home and then decide to stay in the country, the government could use that decision against you. 😱 The self-deportation process is like a contract with the government, and if you don’t follow it, it could complicate your immigration status even more.
You will most likely have to apply for a visa at a consulate, but you will face a harsh reality. The questions you’ll be asked during the visa interview, such as whether you’ve been in the U.S. illegally, could shut you down. 😞💔

The only viable option would be a government pardon, but this is an extremely difficult process with low chances of success. 🙅♂️ A waiver could only be applied for if a close family member (such as a spouse or child) applies for your return, but it is not easy.

If you find yourself in a complicated immigration situation, don’t make decisions lightly. Before using CBP Home or taking any action, consult with an immigration attorney. This can be the difference between resolving your situation safely or complicating it further. 📞💼
