Door Closing: Termination of TPS for Venezuelans

Today, I want to write to our Venezuelan brothers and sisters. You’ve probably already heard about the revocation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for you, and the situation is causing quite a stir — there’s a lot of noise, and honestly, it’s a real mess. But don’t worry, I’m here to break it down and see what can be done.

Why this measure? 🤔

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has already dealt the final blow to TPS — things are getting serious. According to sources, those who received TPS in 2023 will be at risk of losing their protection in 60 days — that’s almost in the blink of an eye! This has left many people drowning in uncertainty.

Who is at risk? 🚨

Not everyone with TPS will be immediately affected, but there are groups who should stay alert. Here are some of them:

  • People whose TPS expires in April 2024 and haven’t taken steps to regularize their status.
  • Those who do not have a pending asylum application.
  • Migrants who entered irregularly and have no other pathways to legalize their status.

But here’s the good news! 🎉 Those who have already been granted asylum or are in advanced residency processes can breathe a little easier. 😅✌️

What to do now? The alternatives!

If you’re among those affected, not all is lost! Here are some possible legal options you might consider:

  • Apply for asylum: 🛡️ If you can prove that returning to Venezuela puts your safety at risk, this could be a viable option.
  • Obtain residency through marriage to a U.S. citizen: 💍 If you’ve married a U.S. citizen, this might be a door you can open!
  • Secure a job offer and sponsorship: 🙌 Some companies can sponsor your residency if you entered the U.S. legally. Don’t lose hope!

When could deportation happen? 🕒

Although the revocation of TPS is a reality, enforcement won’t be immediate. Deportation processes usually take time, so there’s still a window to fight for your rights. Plus, many organizations are already preparing legal actions to stop this measure. So there’s hope!

It’s time to take action! 💪

It’s important to stay informed and act quickly. If you have questions or need help, don’t hesitate to reach out to us! You’re not alone on this journey, and together we can find solutions. 🤝❤️
