Have you heard what’s about to happen?  If you are in the U.S. without legal status, or know someone who is, this interests you… and a lot.

On April 11th, 2025, new immigration rules go into effect that could directly affect your stay in the country. And no, it’s not a rumor, it’s not a “I heard about it”. It is an actual executive order, signed by President Trump.

BEWARE! As of that day, if you are an immigrant and have been in the U.S. for more than 30 days, you may be required to officially register with immigration. In addition, you will have to carry your immigration documents ALL the time.

And if you don’t? You could face fines, jail time or even… deportation. 😟

Who has to register and what does this entail?

The new law says that every foreign national over the age of 14 who stays more than 30 days in the country has to register with USCIS. This is not just for new arrivals. It also applies to those who are already in the U.S. and do not have legal status.

The process includes:

📝 Filling out Form G-325R (yes, another one for the collection).

👆 Creating an online account on the USCIS portal.

📸 Mandatory appointment for fingerprinting, photo and signature.

🔍 Criminal background check.

📄 And at the end, you will receive a document called “Alien Registration Voucher”.

This document will be MANDATORY if you’ve been in the U.S. for more than 30 days 🧾

Who does NOT have to register?

Take a breath if you are in any of these groups:

You already registered when you entered legally.

You are in the process of residency, TPS, DACA, refugee, or asylum.

You entered with humanitarian parole.

🛑 But if you are undocumented or entered informally, you are required to register!

What if I don’t have my papers on me?

Watch out! Another important part of this regulation is that you must carry your immigration documents at all times. Driver’s licenses and local IDs are not valid.

If you don’t have them with you, you could receive:

💸 Fines of up to $5,000 USD

⛓️ Up to 30 days of detention while they verify your status

📦 Did you move? Let immigration know NOW!

Another change: if you change your address, you will have to notify them in maximum 10 days.

Yes, it’s that strict. If you don’t, they could sanction you or use it against you if you want to fix papers later.

😰 Is this dangerous?

Many immigrant rights experts are concerned. These kinds of records have been used before to identify and deport vulnerable people.

That’s why it’s so important that you don’t make decisions without legal advice. What you do or don’t do these days could shape your future and that of your family. 👨👩👧👦

💡 So… what do I do now? Look, you’re not alone. Here are some KEY steps:

Don’t stay in doubt.

Don’t wait until it’s too late.

Consult with immigration lawyers.

And that’s just what we’re here for.
