Immigration attorney

Amanda Moore

Amanda Moore is an immigration attorney with extensive experience representing clients in asylum proceedings, applications for permanent residence and defense in removal proceedings. She has worked on complex cases involving waivers of inadmissibility, applications for naturalization and adjustment of status to establish family relationships. Moore has also counseled teenage mothers on contract issues and landlord-tenant disputes. She volunteers with several organizations, including The Advocates for Human Rights and the Mark Eastwood Legal Clinic for Teen Mothers. In addition, she has served on the board of the Middle Tennessee Futbol Club and is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. Moore has a strong academic background, having earned her J.D. from Howard University School of Law, where she was a scholar and excelled in international human rights competitions. She is admitted to practice in Washington D.C., Tennessee, and is inactive in Minnesota.

Professional Experience

Musa Obregon & Associates, Maspeth, NY – Legal Intern: Represented clients seeking immigrant and non-immigrant visas, asylum, cancellation of removal and voluntary departure. Prepared applications, including I-130, N-400, I-589, I-601, I-765, I-918. I appeared before immigration judges for initial hearings. I attended individual hearings before immigration judges. I appeared before adjudicating officers for immigration interviews. Drafted and filed motions, exhibits and witness lists in preparation for deportation proceedings.

Dorsey & Whitney LLP, Minneapolis, MN – Trial Associate: Practiced in the area of white collar crime and civil fraud, class actions, construction and products liability. I drafted documents for general and complex commercial litigation, such as opposing a motion to compel production of records received from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. I successfully defended against a labor and employment class action seeking over $50 million in damages. I conducted and managed extensive electronic and paper document reviews for multi-million dollar corporations. Co-led roundtable discussions on electronic discovery as part of Continuing Legal Education for clients’ in-house counsel.

Community

The Advocates for Human Rights, Minneapolis, MN – Volunteer Attorney: Represented clients seeking asylum and lawful permanent resident status. I prepared asylum applications, including drafting affidavits of support and legal briefs. I participated in asylum interviews before an immigration officer. Successfully defended an asylum case based on religious grounds.

Mark Eastwood Legal Clinic for Teen Mothers, Minneapolis, MN – Volunteer Legal Counsel: Advised and represented teen mothers on contract, landlord-tenant relations and immigration issues. Drafted legal memoranda, argued motions and negotiated settlement agreements.
